Oct 2, 2020 | culture

Nature is wonderful, and that’s why it gives us great gifts.

Many plants, if used correctly, can be highly beneficial for our body.

One of these plants is Medical Cannabis, which can be found in two different strains, Indica and Sativa.

Then what is the difference between cannabis Indica and cannabis Sativa?

Keep reading to find out!

THE ORIGIN

Difference Cannabis Indica Sativa

Indica originates from Central Asia and Indian subcontinent(Afghanistan, Pakistan, North of India, Tibet, Nepal), while Sativa, originates from equatorial areas (Thailand, South of India, Jamaica, Mexico).

The first classification of Cannabis was done in 1785 by Lamarck, who found the Cannabis grown in India to have a more euphoric effect compared to the European Cannabis.

FORM AND FLOWERING

Indica has a very wide and dark green kind of leaf; some strains of cannabis indica have purple/reddish leaves around the flower.

Some Indica have a very distinctive smell similar to that of a skunk, or rather that of cat urine, while others have a more sweet and exotic scent.

Sativa has very thin leaves, in fact it is the most portayed one, chosen to represent Cannabis because of the form of its leaves that differ from any other plants.

Flowering

Another way to discern the two strains is the time of the flowering:

Indica plants are short and densely branched, they have a thick rooting system and robust stems, which makes them more suitable for indoor growing. Their buds tend to grow in “clusters”. Their pistils, short and whitish, tend to be plurple or reddish. These plants, rich in resin, are the most resistant against mold and infestation.

Sativa plants are tall, thin and sparse. They are usually grown outdoor since they can reach heights up to 5 meters.

The buds of Sativa grow all along the plant, are a lot bigger, even though the final yield is way less fruitful than Indica.

Indica flowering is much faster, but the plant grows slowly. Sativa is the exact opposite! That’s why the timing is almost the same for both plants, even if it takes roughly from 6 to 12 weeks for the Indica and 8 to 16 weeks for the Sativa.

The difference between the effects of Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa

Indica and Sativa have different effects on our body and mind.

Indica has a more relevant effect on our body, know as “STONE”.

Relaxation of body and mind that positively affects the quality of the sleep. It is also a natural anti-inflammatory and painkiller.

  • It reduces stress and anxiety
  • It increases the production of dopamine
  • It increases the appetite and reduces pain and inflammation

Sativa, instead, has a more euphoric effect, called “HIGH”.

Euphoric, cerebral, cheerful is the definition of the final effect. Unlike the Stone effect of Indica, it has no benefits for the sleep.

To sum up, hereafter the most considerable effects of Sativa:

  • It increases the psychophisical energy
  • It prevents depression

  • It reduces nausea and appetite
  • It induces a general sensation of wellness

CBD EFFECTS

CBD effects

Most of the scientific researches on the CBD effects have been conducted almost entirely in the last 5 years.

The growing interest of the medical and pharmaceutical reasearch on the therapeutic qualities of this molecule, is due to the exceptional effects of the CBDon neurological and physiological disorders, including the muscle pain. The WHO has repeatedly pointed out, still in the annual report of the end of January 2019, that the use of cbd does not result in relevant side effects for our health. Moreover, an article from 2013 published on the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology reports that CBD prevents the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, such as Streptomyces griseus and Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria are particularly sensitive to the extracts of Cannabis.

MIRACULOUS HYBRIDS

Cannabis sativa and cannabis indica hybrids

By producing genetic hybrids of Indica and Sativa we get very unique plants.

Large plants of Cannabis Indica hybridised with long plants of Cannabis Sativa give highly mold resistant and fruitful plants.

These combinations are not limited to the growing, considering the benefits coming from the characteristics of two very different plants, the results are ASTONISHING.

In the US in fact, after the legalization of the Cannabis and the different hybrids, it was possible to reach incredible results to cure certain diseases. New specimen from both Sativa and Indica are used to cure insomnia, pain, lack of appetite and depression, reducing the disproportionate effects of both genetics in favour of the best intended effect.
